 SAMPLE VERSES

from the beginning, middle, and end.

It begins in the jungle of an Ancient Time,

When birds make music, and children speak rhyme.

When monkeys swing through the canopies,

While children build play huts beneath the trees.

In a nearby tree, the Boss Monkey’s eyes,

Watch over the jungle - who slithers, who flies.

20 monkeys hear the words, “Come back!”

Chuckling and giggling, they march toward the shack.

Onto the roof they leap from a rock,

O my, the small hut is shaking in shock!

Far above Boss Monkey is heard to say,

“The child is clever. She outsmarted us today.”

Then suddenly his eyes pop in great fear.

An anaconda, the largest snake in the jungle, is quite near.

Boss Monkey leads his troop to a place to rest.

The hundred agree - Boss Monkey’s the best!

Taking care of everyone whether they leap or climb.

Day and night, he guards the jungle of the Ancient Time.

The Cover

If you look closely, you see clues to the story.

First, a child and monkey are the key characters.

in fact, 100 more monkeys are coming!

The child's hut in the background

provides the roof for the monkeys run over.

A waterfall hints that excitement will happen.

Author Notes

A story takes time to write.

Rhyming the words adds an extra challenge.

Until the book is published, new ideas are added every

time the author reads it read aloud!

Which happens a lot as it is sitting on her coffee table.

Illustrations take time to be drawn.

Sketching an idea, then watching the illustrator give it the

professional touch is an exciting journey.

Today, we show the author's sketch and

the illustrator's final cover.
